Welcome to St Martin’s Church in Sharjah, actually the oldest church in the Chaplaincy!
Two words best describe the ethos of St Martin’s Church: “family” and “missional” – our members love one another, uphold one another in prayer, are there for each other in any need and have a sincere heart for reaching out to the lost, the lonely and the unlovely. We also follow two principles in all our activities – teaching the Word of God at all levels and encouraging a life of prayer, at both the individual and congregational level. To help us do this we have a variety offellowship groups for men, women, young adults and teens as well as Friday and Sunday school for the younge children.
St Martin’s also started and coordinates the Chaplaincy’s ministry to the Migrant Labour Community in the Northern Emirates. In any week, church workers and ministry volunteers meet over 600 labourers – both men and women – and minister to them in a truly holistic way; physically, psychologically and spiritually. Although they rarely (if at all) ever meet in one place at one time, this is perhaps the largest congregation of the Chaplaincy.
We are also involved with intentionally raising up and equipping lay leaders to go out into the harvest field – this year a couple, who had been attending our young adults group, are being sent out to minister in Nepal and Bhutan. This is the first team sent by the Chaplaincy and together with the excitement of this achievement, there is a real desire to do more, much more.
We host about 85 guest congregations in our facility, mainly from Asia and Africa, creating a wonderful and truly ecumenical experience throughout our church family. We have Anglican services on Fridays at 11am and on Sundays at 7:45pm. There are a wide range of activities throughout the week including the Saturdays Men’s fellowship at 6:30 am; Young adults at 7:30pm; praying for nations at 8.00pm every Tuesday, Women’s fellowship on Wednesdays at 10am, and Thursdays an open time of prayer for our congregational and local needs.
St Martin’s is a Christ centered and Spirit directed Church. If you are looking for a Church which is holistically oriented, then St Martin’s is the answer – come along and see for yourself! We look forward to seeing you.
